Holiday Cottages in CornwallIf you have a family and love Cornwall, then there’s surely no better way to see the county than by staying in a holiday cottage.
A holiday cottage offers the best of all worlds. The kids love their home from home for a fortnight, and the cottages just a couple of miles away from the coast are very competitively priced for the accommodation and facilities on offer. The other nice thing about a holiday cottage is that you will get to thoroughly explore different places with each stay, unlike visiting your favourite hotel. The only downside of an inland cottage, when compared to a cottage right on the coast, is coping with the traffic. However, if you get going reasonably early with an itinerary for the day, then it’s really no problem, even in the busiest months of July and August. Having a successful holiday is all about planning where you’re going to stay and exactly what you’re going to do. So much depends on how old your kids are, what they’re into and, of course, the famous Cornish weather. Anyone who loves the extreme south west tip of England will undoubtedly have encountered some bad weather, but making plans for wet weather will ensure you still enjoy your holiday. Rainy weather can have its own charms, and even be welcome, depending on what activities you have planned. Many families enjoy hill-walking and rock climbing. Just make sure you have the right rock climbing equipment and walking gear to suit all-weather eventualities. The south west coastal path is surely the countries best, and is certainly its most challenging. It’s been calculated that if you walked the whole thing, then the height climbed would be close to four times the height of Mount Everest. So, you really need your best Scarpa boots (well worn in), and you need to be fit. Luckily there are gentler sections, and the views are always stunning. You also need to be fit and able for Cornwall’s trendiest of pursuits, surfing. The best places are probably Newquay’s Fistral beach, or St Ives’ Porthmeor, but there are various other places and if you want to learn, there are plenty of surf schools where an instructor can teach you everything you need to know. St Ives is also home to the Tate Gallery, just behind Porthmeor Beach, where so many artists plied their trade in the past, as well as being home to countless excellent restaurants. Of course, Padstow is probably the best-known place for restaurants thanks to Rick Stein, and offers fine seafood dining. Newquay is the place to be if you’re looking for more raucous nightlife. There are so many reasons to visit Cornwall at any time of the year. Visit off-season if you prefer it nice and quiet. Easter can offer reasonable prices if you can't go peak season, and you might still get warm, dry weather. Do your busy lifestyle a favour and take time out in a Cornish cottage – you won’t regret it if you plan your holiday well. Thanks for visiting our Holiday Cottages in Cornwall page.
